The famous French painter, Pierre-Louis David, exiled in Belgium, was buried in Brussels in 1825.
On the occasion of the bi-centenary of the French Revolution, the Deputy-Mayor of Brussels proposed to the French authorities to make restitution of the “remains” of the painter … which actually amounted to nothing! This gave rise to a quarrel for… imaginary bones.
